Potato prices rose by Rs 3.60 to Rs 595.80 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enlarged their positions on pick-up in spot market demand.

Restricted supply from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in May rose by Rs 3.60, or 0.60% to Rs 595.80 per quintal, with a trading volume of 133 lots.

The potato for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 1.30, or 0.23% to Rs 556 per quintal, with a business volume of 50 lots.

Likewise, its prices for delivery in July moved up by 90 paise, or 0.16% to Rs 535.50 per quintal, with an open interest of seven lots.

Market analysts said increased buying by traders and speculators on pick-up in spot market demand, mainly led to rise in potato prices at futures trade.
