Potato prices fell by Rs 16.20 to Rs 522.60 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions amid less offtake in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for June contract delivery fell by Rs 16.20, or 3%, to Rs 522.60 per quintal, with a business volume of 200 lots.
Potato for July contract delivery eased by Rs 14.80, or 2.85%, to Rs 504 per quintal, with a turnover of 69 lots, while May potato contracts were also trading lower by Rs 7.70, or 1.31%, at Rs 578 per quintal, with an open interest in 196 lots.
The fall in potato prices was mostly due to offloading of positions by speculators, driven by subdued demand in the spot market, traders said.
