Potato prices remained weak and lost Rs 5.90 to Rs 557 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators off-loaded their positions on the back of sluggish domestic demand.

Adequate stocks position following increased arrivals in the spot market also put pressure on the potato futures prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in June fell by Rs 5.90, or 1.04% to Rs 557 per quintal, with a business volume of 42 lots.

The potato for delivery in July also declined by Rs 5.40, or 1.05% to Rs 507.50 per quintal, with a business turnover of 51 lots.

Similarly, its prices for delivery in May declined by Rs 5, or 0.80% to Rs 614.70 per quintal, with an open interest of 12 lots.

Traders said off-loading of positions by speculators amid increased arrivals, mainly pulled down potato futures prices.
