Potato prices rose by Rs 3.80 to Rs 591 per quintal in futures trade today, as traders enlarged their positions on pick up in spot market demand due to festive season.

Restricted supply from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, potato for April month contract rose Rs 3.80, or 0.65 per cent, to Rs 591 per quintal, with a trading volume of 15 lots.

Potato for March month contract traded higher by Rs 2.90, or 0.48 per cent to Rs 604.50 per quintal, with a business volume of 15 lots, while May month delivery up by Rs 2.30 or 0.37 per cent to Rs 612.40 per quintal in one lot.

Marketmen said increased buying by traders and speculators on pick up in demand in the spot market due to festive season mainly led to rise in potato prices at futures trade.

They said restricted arrivals from producing belts in Agra and Haldwani also influenced the trading sentiment to some extent.
