Pre-market: Positive opening likely, world markets strong

Heavyweights - RIL, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors in focus

Markets are likley to see a positive opening on the back of strong global cues. Early indicator, SGX NIfty was up 17 points at 5,973 at 0640 hrs, IST.

Global stock markets rose on Tuesday as U.S. stocks were boosted by news of yet another possible merger that suggested there is still room to the upside, while a pick-up in German economic sentiment supported European stocks.

The S&P 500 Index, hovering near a five-year high,extended its seven-week winning streak.The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.34 percent, at 14,029. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 0.62 percent, at 1,529. The Nasdaq Composite Index  was up 0.50 percent, at 3,208.

In Europe, stocks posted their best finish in three weeks as stronger-than-expected German sentiment data prompted investors to return to economically-sensitive sectors like autos and technology after a three-session losing streak.

Asian shares edged higher on Wednesday, buoyed by rising global equities overnight on an improving global economic outlook, while the yen resumed its decline.The MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.3 percent.Tokyo's Nikkei stock average opened 1 percent higher.

STOCKS TO WATCH

Relaince Industries may see a positive opening as the company and its partner BP Plc plans to jointly invest more than USD 5 billion over the next three to five years to boost output at a key natural gas field off India's east coast.

Tata Motors may see an uptick as Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover has started work on developing what would be the smallest SUV from the company till date.

Bharti Airtel may see some price action as TDSAT has directed the government not to take any coercive action against the company in a dispute over licence fees pending further hearing in the matter.

The Cabinet is likely to take up the matter of merging Bharat Heavy Plate Vessels with its parent company BHEL, in a meeting scheduled on Wednesday. So watch our BHEL.

Airline stocks will be under scanner follwing Jet's annoucement of offering two million tickets at discounted prices.

Pantaloon is likely to see some moves as proxy voting advisory firm InGovern recommended shareholders of Pantaloon Retail to vote against the resolution to demerge the fashion business of Pantaloon.

Lanco Infratech is likely to see a positive tick as the company is known to have reached out to its Malaysian partner, Genting, to buy stake in three of its power plants.
