Profit sales check gains

It was yet another volatile day on the Street, as investors booked profits at every rise even as they bought when the prices dropped.
 
The 30-share Sensex ended at 15794.92 points, up by 63 points (up by 0.4 per cent) over its previous close, after hitting the day's high of 15,868.85 and a low of 15,742.32.
 
Positive global cues and broad-based buying pushed the market up by more than 70 points in the first half of the day. However, early afternoon saw major selling in auto, FMCG, metal and real-estate stocks, turning the market skittish.
 
Broader NSE-50 Index of the National Stock Exchange continued to disappoint ending at 4620.75 points, marginally up from yesterday's close.
 
Capital goods sector ignored the market sentiment as the BSE capital Goods Index ended at 13,767.31 points, higher by 1.26 per cent from previous close yet again. BHEL ended at Rs 1835.45 a share, up by nearly 4 per cent from previous close.
 
IT stocks appeared to recover some lost ground with chart topper, Satyam Computers, gaining by 5.42 per cent to end at Rs 518.30 a share on the back of reports that the engineering services division of the IT major is poised to clinch deals worth $150-200 million.
 
Infosys technologies recovered from yesterday's drop to end at Rs 1976.60 a share, up by 1.53 per cent.The BSE IT index ended at 4963.12 points, up by 1.24 per cent from its previous close.
 
Reliance Energy was the highest gainer on the benchmark index, trading at Rs 775.30 a share, up by 8.5 per cent.
 
Yesterday's gainer, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) lost by nearly 2.13 per cent to trade at Rs 199.65 a share. United Spirits ended at Rs 1321.05 a share, down by nearly 10 per cent. The BSE-FMCG index plunged by 1.50 per cent, ending at 1843.30 points.
 
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,812.34 down 37 points or 0.5 per cent. ABG Shipyard (up by 7.19 per cent to Rs 489.60), Castrol India (up by 11 per cent to Rs 280.35 )and Dena Bank (Rs 59.80) were the highest gainers
 
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,153.63 down 81 points or 1 per cent. Engineering small cap Hercules ended at Rs 3134.35, up by nearly 15 per cent.
 
Media stocks continued to do well with Zee News (up by 2.17 per cent to Rs 70.70), Adlabs Films (up by 0.3 per cent to Rs 536.45), UTV Software (Rs 494.55, up by 0.62 per cent).
