Pulses imports at 8,93,000 tn

About 8,93,000 tonnes of pulses have been imported by private traders till mid-July this year, according to official estimates. These include 4,30,000 tonnes of yellow peas, 1,90,000 tonnes of urad and 90,000 tonnes of moong.
 
After the government's abolition of import duty on pulses, a total of 7,10,000 tonnes of pulses have been contracted for import. These include 3,30,000 tonnes of yellow peas and 1,40,000 tonnes of tur.
 
Besides, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) is importing an additional 2000 tonnes of urad and 2300 tonnes of moong, which are expected to arrive to arrive shortly.
 
This is in addition to 30,000 tonnes of pulses that have already been imported by the apex cooperative. These shipments consisted of 25,000 tonnes of urad and 5000 tonnes of moong, says an official note issued by the food and consumer affairs ministry today.
 
With the fresh imports, the total stocks imported by Nafed would touch 34,300 tonnes. These pulses will be released in the markets to keep the prices stable.
