The Punjab government today fixed the state advised price (SAP) of advanced, medium and late variety of sugarcane at Rs 200, Rs 195 and Rs 190 a quintal, respectively, for crushing season 2010-11.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board here chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, an official spokesman said.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal hoped that with an increase of Rs 20 a quintal, both cane growers and the sugar industry in private as well as the cooperative sector would benefit. He emphasised the need to adopt trench technology and single bud and tissue cultivation to enhance the quality of sugarcane and urged the farmers to bring more area under the crop so that the mills could produce high quality sugar.
It may be recalled that the state government has fixed the SAP of advanced, medium and late variety of sugarcane at Rs 180, Rs 175 and Rs 170 a quintal, respectively, for crushing season 2009-10.
