The estimated area under rabi oilseeds production has increased by 8.72 lakh hectares this year to 88.09 lakh hectares.
As against the normal area of 102.45 lakh hectares under rabi oilseeds production, the estimated area coverage is 88.09 lakh hectares, compared to 79.37 lakh hectares of last year, according to the revised estimates prepared by the VMA Oilseeds Research and Development Institute (Vordi).
Oilseeds production this season is pegged at 79.63 lakh tonne compared to 64.51 lakh tonne of the corresponding season last year, increase of 23.4 per cent. The rise in oilseeds output is being attributed to better weather forecasts and increase in coverage by 10.9 per cent to 88.09 lakh hectares from 79.37 lakh hectares last year, G Chandra, deputy director of Vordi said.
