The markets entered the positive zone for a while but soon slipped back into the red owing to persistent weakness in the realty and the oil & gas stocks. The Sensex is now at 17,583, down 56 points. The NSE Nifty is 18 points down at 5,255.
Among the Sensex-30 scrips, DLF is the major loser on the BSE, down 2% each at Rs 332. Jaiprakash Associates, HDFC, Reliance Communications and BHEL are down over 1% each.
ICICI Bank and ITC are on the other hand up 1% each at Rs 929 and Rs 265, respectively.
The market breadth is negative, out of 2,782 shares traded, 1,404 have declined and 1,149 have advanced so far on the BSE.
Among the sectoral gainers, FMCG index has advanced 0.5% to 2,848. The oil & gas and the relaty index has slipped around 1% each on the BSE.
BPCL, Essar Oil and Aban Offshore has slipped 2% each to Rs 499, Rs 140 and Rs 1,220, respectively on the oil&gas index.
