Reliance Retail (RRL), the wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), is planning to procure onions for its present and proposed retail stores across the country, 'Reliance Fresh', from Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Nashik district.

The company, which had submitted its application for the purpose, has reportedly got a license from the Lasalgaon APMC for onion purchase.

The company, which presently has around 60 Reliance Fresh retail stores across the country, is planning to open a total of 4,000 retail stores in 1,500 cities and towns across the country in the next four-five years, at an investment of Rs 25,000 crore.

Along with grocery, bakery, dairy products and meat in select stores, the retail chain will also sell vegetables and onions. The company will sell onions in its present and proposed retail stores in 2 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs.

"The RRL officials had submitted an application and we had recently given a license for onion procurement from the Lasalgaon APMC," sources from Lasalgaon APMC said, but gave no figures for the purchase order.
