The Sensex, which looked all set to register gains for the ninth straight week, dropped marginally for the week ended December 8 due to aggressive profit-taking on Friday. The Sensex, as of Thursday was up 128 points for the week. A sharp 173-point fall on Friday changed it all, and the index ended the week with a loss of 46 points at 13,799. The Sensex rallied past the 14,000-mark on four days, but failed to close above it even once during the week! The index touched a new, all-time intra-day high of 14,035. Agressive profit-taking on Friday saw the index drop to a low 13,757 - an intra-week swing of 278 points.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSHDFC was the major drag on the index during the week, and pulled it down by 34 points followed by ONGC (17 points), HDFC Bank (14 points), ITC, HLL (12 points each) and Bajaj Auto, Wipro (10 points each).On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro pulled up the index by 29 points followed by BHEL (16 points), Hindalco (11 points), Tata Steel and Tata Motors (9 points each).INDEX GAINERS & LOSERSLarsen & Toubro rallied over 5% (Rs 73) to Rs 1,452. BHEL and Hindalco surged 4.5% each to Rs 2,636 and Rs 180, respectively. NTPC, Reliance Energy, Tata Motors and Tata Steel gained 2-3% each.HDFC dropped nearly 6% (Rs 94) to Rs 1,550. Hero Honda, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, Cipla, ONGC, HLL, ACC, Satyam and Maruti declined 2-3% each.
