Rice prices fall on sluggish demand

Rice basmati and non-basmati prices fell up to Rs 300 per quintal on the wholesale grains market today on sluggish demand amid adequate stocks.

Traders said adequate stocks against subdued demand mainly pulled down wholesale rice basmati and non-basmati rice prices.

In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 varities fell by Rs 100 and Rs 300 to Rs 5,500-5,600 and Rs 4,200-5,300 per quintal, respectively.

Permal raw, wand, sela and IR-8 were also traded lower at Rs 1,850-1,900, Rs 2,050-2,150, Rs 2,150-2,230 and Rs 1,750-1,775 as compared to previous levels of Rs 1,900-1,950, Rs 2,050-2,200, Rs 2,175-2,230 and Rs 1,775-1,795 per quintal.
