RIL, Satyam contracts in action

Volumes in the derivatives segment crashed on Monday with the futures and options segment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) recording a turnover of Rs 6,520 crore and a total of just over two lakh contracts being traded.
 
The total outstanding open interest in the market was in excess of 29 crore shares.
 
In the index futures segment, the turnover was of the order of Rs 1,760 crore and outstanding open market position of 1.17 crore shares while equity futures recorded a turnover of Rs 3,944 crore and the open outstanding position was slightly more than 20 crore shares.
 
In the futures segment, the top traded contracts were those of Reliance Industries, Satyam Computer, IPCL, Tata Steel, TCS among others.
 
Tata Steel's open interest position was of the order of 2.37 crore shares, while IPCL's outstanding open market position was around 89 lakh shares.
 
The other futures with high open interest positions were Arvind Mills, Maruti Udyog and State Bank.
 
In option calls, the most popular contracts were those of Satyam at a strike price of Rs 400, Tata Steel at a strike of Rs 300 and 290, TCS at strikes of 1,100 and 1,140. In option puts, the most popular contracts were those of Satyam at a strike of 400, Reliance at a strike of 540, Infosys at a strike of 1,770, IPCL at a strike of 210 and Tata Steel at a strike of 290.
 
Nifty October futures ended at 1,785.15, a slight discount to the cash value which closed at 1,786 at the end of the day's trading. The put-call ratio was again up at 0.33.
