The Rubber Board is targeting exports of 100,000 tonne of natural rubber in the next 2 to 3 years, said Chairman Sajen Peter Monday. The Board is focusing more on exports to shield domestic rubber prices from the volatility in global markets, he said. |
In the current year too, rubber exports are likely to exceed the targeted 40,000 tonne, he said. |
"Due to high international prices we may be able to register incremental increase in exports during the year,'' he said. Rubber imports into the country from April 1 to September 12 totalled 34,157 tonne, he said. |
Most of the imports were contracted during the first quarter of the current fiscal, when international prices were lower than domestic prices, he said. |
