The Indian rupee strengthened by 14 paise to Rs 44.34 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and dollar's weakness against major currencies.
The rupee had depreciated by 3 paise to close at Rs 44.48/49 a dollar in the previous session.
Forex dealers said dollar weakness against major currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market, kept the rupee sentiment firm.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex surged by 192.14 points, or 1%, at 19,313.97 in opening trade today.
