The Indian rupee strengthened by 2 paise to Rs 44.41 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and dollar weakness against other major currencies overseas.
The rupee had closed flat at Rs 44.43/44 per dollar in the previous session.
Forex dealers said dollar weakness against major currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market mainly kept the rupee sentiment firm.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex surged by 64.48 points, or 0.33%, to 19,356.50 in opening trade today.
