In the futures segment, the top traded contracts were those of Satyam (Rs 753.58 crore), Infosys (Rs 619 crore), Tisco (Rs 603 crore), Reliance (Rs 394 crore), TCS, SBI, Tata Motors, Wipro, ONGC among others.

Dealers said that there was a lot of activity in technology counters, with the top rung stocks losing open interest. Satyam, for instance, shed around eight lakh shares in open interest, while Infosys lost around one lakh shares.

The volatility in technology stocks was due to uncertainty over the outcome of the US elections during the trading hours. Analysts said that profit-booking in some o the tech counters also resulted in the open interest going down.

Futures which added open interest were those of Union Bank, State Bank, MTNL, IPCL, and Canara Bank among others. Foreign investors were net buyers in index futures and options, according to data available.

The Nifty November futures closed at 1,839.50, at a premium to the spot Nifty closing of 1,837.40.
