While the Nifty index was fairly steady, there was some volatility towards the end and this was reflected in the derivatives segment as well. |
The most active futures contracts were the Nifty itself, Satyam, ACC, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel and Tata Motors. |
In fact, volumes in the derivatives segment were higher than the turnover of Rs 7297.72 crore in the cash segment of both the BSE and NSE combined. |
During the day the Nifty index futures saw an addition of around four lakh shares but there was some unwinding of positions towards the close of the session and this resulted in some of the futures contracts shedding their open positions. |
Dealers said this was resulting in a widening in the gap between the cash Nifty and the Nifty futures to eight to ten points from two points. |
There has also been a build-up of positions in Satyam and Wipro - while Satyam added around seven lakh shares, Wipro added 90,000 shares which translates into around 25 per cent of its open positions. Wipro also saw an increase in the open positions for the second day running. |
