Select copra spurts on robust demand

Select copra prices rose at the spices market here today due to increased demand from stockists and retailers coupled with limited arrivals from producing regions.

Copra Rajapur Mumbai and copra edible Mumbai hardened by Rs 100 per quintal each to Rs 6,900 and Rs 6,100 from last weekend's closing level of Rs 6,800 and Rs 6,000 respectively.

Copra office Kozhikode moved up by Rs 25 per quintal to Rs 5,250, as compared with Rs 5,225 last Saturday.

Following are today's closing rates in rupees, with the previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kilo) 201/221 (201/221), ginger bleached (per kilo) 230 (230), ginger unbleached (per kilo) 245 (245), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 5,350 (5,350)

copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 5,250 (5,225), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 6,900 (6,800) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 6,100 (6,000)
