Select edible oil prices declined by Rs 20 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on sluggish demand at prevailing levels amid weakening global trend.

Sentiments turned bearish after palm oil dropped in global markets on speculation that improving production in Malaysia and Indonesia, the world's two biggest growers, will lead to an increase in stockpiles.

Meanwhile, palm oil for the October contract lost 1.4% to $1,043 a tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.

In the national capital, soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Kandla) oils shed Rs Rs 20 each to Rs 6,450 and Rs 5,950 per quintal, respectively.

Palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (kandla) oils also traded lower by the same margin to Rs 5,950 and Rs 5,650, respectively. Crude palm oil (ex-kandla) lost Rs 20 to Rs 5,230 per quintal.
