Select edible oil prices fell up to Rs 100 per quintal on the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today owing to slackness in demand at existing higher levels amid a weak global trend.
However, non-edible oils remained steady in the absence of worthwhile activity.
Trading sentiment turned bearish after palm oil dropped in Malaysia, tracking losses in soybean oil, on speculation China may increase borrowing costs, which may cool demand for commodities.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for the January-delivery contract lost 2.2 per cent to $1,046 a metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.
Traders said subdued demand prevailing higher levels amid weakening global trend mainly led to fall in select wholesale edible oil prices.
In the national capital,mustard expeller oil(Dadri) lost Rs 50 to Rs 5550 per quintal.
Soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Delhi) fell by Rs 100 and Rs 50 to Rs 5680 and Rs 5050, while crude palm oil (ex-kandla) and palmolein (rbd) shed Rs 40 each to Rs 4800 and Rs 5600 per quintal.
