Select edible oils strengthened up to Rs 20 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on increased buying by vanaspati millers and local parties.
Firming trend in overseas market further fuelled the uptrend in edible oil prices. Traders said increased buying by vanaspati millers and retailers influenced the edible oil prices.
Meanwhile, palm oil futures for the March-delivery contract gained 1.2 per cent to $1,174 a metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.
In the national capital, soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore), soyabean degum (Kandla) and cottonseed mill delivery (Haryana) were up by Rs 10 each to Rs 6,080, Rs 5,690 and Rs 5,430, while mustard expeller oil (Dadri) traded higher by Rs 20 to Rs 5,770 per quintal.
In line with a general firming trend, palmolein (rbd) and crude palm oil (ex-kandla) gained Rs 20 each to to 5,980 and Rs 5,360 per quintal.
Coconut oil too traded in positive zone with a gain of Rs 50 to Rs 1,400-1,460 per tin.
In the non-edible section, castor oil also rose by Rs 50 to Rs 8,550-8,650 per quintal on increased industrial offtake.
