Following a record 616 points rally on Friday coupled with strong world market the Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 158 points at 9703 and then did not bother to look back.Unabated buying in the market saw the index zoom to a high of 10,118 - up 573 points from its previous close. However, intra-day profit taking saw the index pare gains and finally settle 340 points higher at 9885.In the process, the index today also broke its 5-week losing streak by gaining 74 points this week.The Metal index surged 7.6% to 7501. While the FMCG index soared 5.7% to 1793, the Teck index rallied 4.8% to 2313.The market breadth was extremely positive with more than four gainers for every declining share. Out of 2,477 stocks traded, 1,965 advanced, 469 declined and 43 were unchanged today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSTata Steel soared 11.7% to Rs 462. Satyam zoomed nearly 9% to Rs 671, and TCS rallied 8.6% to Rs 1,687.Bharti Airtel has surged 7.7% to Rs 370. HLL has gained nearly 7% at Rs 216. HDFC Bank advanced over 6% to Rs 740.Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, ITC, Wipro, Tata Motors, Dr.Reddy's, ICICI Bank, Cipla and NTPC were up 4-6% each.Grasim slipped over 3% to Rs 1,756. ONGC dropped 2% to Rs 1,011. HDFC declined 1.8% to Rs 1,045.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSReliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 262 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 179 crore), Infosys (Rs 164 crore), Satyam (Rs 157.52 crore) and Reliance Capital (Rs 149.19 crore).G V Films led the volume chart with trades of around 61 lakh shares followed by Reliance Communication Ventures (51.34 lakh), SAIL (43.55 lakh), Gitanjali Gems (41 lakh) and IFCI (40.21 lakh).
