The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 228 points at 10,455 following negative cues from the global markets. The index is now down 259 points at 10,424.
Sterlite has slumped 5% to Rs 280. Infosys, TCS and Tata Steel have plunged around 4.5% each to Rs 1,287, Rs 536 and Rs 266, respectively.
Reliance Communications has shed 3.7% at Rs 249. Wipro has tumbled 3.3% to Rs 287.
Tata Power, DLF, Reliance Infrastructure and Bharti Airtel have slipped nearly 3% each to Rs 766, Rs 278, Rs 491 and Rs 703, respectively.
ITC, however, has gained 1% at Rs 171.
