The Sensex is now down 276 points at 14,817. Financials, capital goods and realty stocks continue weigh on the index. The BSE Realty index has plunged over 6% to 5,262. The Bankex has shed 4% at 6,977, and the Capital Goods index has dropped over 3% to 12,213.
DLF has slumped 7% to Rs 510, and Reliance Infrastructure has tumbled 6.6% to Rs 997. Jaiprakash Associates has shed 5.8% at Rs 176.
SBI has plunged 5.5% to Rs 1,470, and HDFC has dropped 4.7% to Rs 2,299. ICICI Bank has slipped over 4% to Rs 681, and HDFC Bank has declined nearly 3% to Rs 1,183.
BHEL has shed 4.3% at Rs 1,710, and Larsen & Toubro has dropped 4% to Rs 2,683.
ACC and Maruti have tumbled around 3% each to Rs 610 and Rs 649, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever, NTPC and Mahindra & Mahindra have declined over 2% each to Rs 239, Rs 182 and Rs 582, respectively.

Hindalco, ITC and Reliance Communications are also down nearly 2% each at Rs 137, Rs 191 and Rs 432, respectively.
On the other hand, Infosys has surged 3.8% to Rs 1,687. Satyam has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 414, and TCS has added nearly 1% to Rs 836.
Tata Power has moved up 1.3% to Rs 1,033, and Tata Steel has advanced 1% to Rs 617.
Out of 2,646 stocks traded so far, 1,716 have declined, 843 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
