The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 27 points at 6,221, and touched a high of 6,268 in afternoon deals. The index, however, could not hold the gains, and slipped to a low of 6,173 - an intra-day loss of 95 points - before the closing bell. The Sensex finally closed with a marginal decline of two points at 6,192.While 17 index scrips declined with a volume of 1.46 crore shares totalling Rs 771 crore, 13 advanced with a volume of 72 lakh shares for Rs 266 crore.Heavyweights finished on a mixed note. HLL was up nearly 2% (Rs 3) at Rs 143. ITC was up Rs 11 at Rs 1,252. Infosys declined nearly 2% (Rs 35) to Rs 1,963. SBI lost nearly a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 584. Reliance was flat at Rs 511. Cement scrips finished on a firm note for the second consecutive day. Grasim advanced 3% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,290. While Gujarat Ambuja was up 1.5% (Rs 7) to Rs 441, ACC was up nearly a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 362.Hero Honda gained over 3% (Rs 17) to Rs 537. Bajaj, which was weak right through the session, finished with a gain of a per cent (Rs 12) at Rs 1,084 on a late bout of buying.Ranbaxy slumped 5.6% (Rs 60) to Rs 1,012 after reporting FY04 numbers during the day. Dr. Reddy's was down 2% (Rs 17) at Rs 712. While Satyam was up 1.5% (Rs 5) at Rs 367, Wipro moved up 1.2% (Rs 8) to Rs 682. HDFC was firm right through the day, and closed with a gain of 2.5% (Rs 18) at Rs 772. Hindalco added 3% (Rs 40) to Rs 1,281. Tata Power advanced nearly 5% (Rs 17) to Rs 376.BHEL declined 1.7% (Rs 11) to Rs 695. HPCL was down 2% (Rs 9) at Rs 343. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ONGC and Zee also declined.
