The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 34 points at 12,401. The index soon plunged to a low of 12,224 - down 211 points from its previous close.The index is now down 34 points at 12,401.Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has soared over 4% to Rs 2,895. NTPC has perked up 1.7% to Rs 131.Tata Steel has surged 2% to Rs 652, and Hindalco has gained 1.5% at Rs 247.Tata Motors has rallied 2% to Rs 973. Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda have advanced 1% each to Rs 3,182 and Rs 879, respectively.Ranbaxy and Dr.Reddy's have spurted over 1% each to Rs 500 and Rs 1,647, respectively.Cement stocks have posted huge losses following reports that price controls would be introduced from Monday. Gujarat Ambuja has slumped 5.8% to Rs 108. ACC has plunged 4.4% to Rs 924, and Grasim has slipped over 1% to Rs 2,278.ICICI Bank has declined 2.4% to Rs 644. HDFC is down 1% at Rs 1,375.Reliance is down over 2% at Rs 1,084. ONGC has dropped 1.6% to Rs 1,435.The market breadth is even. Out of 2,578 stocks traded so far, 1,262 have advanced, 1,261 have declined and 55 are unchanged.
