After opening 33 points lower at 10,305, the Sensex slipped to a low of 10,116 - down 222 points - in early trades. However, the index recovered smartly and rebounded into the positive zone to touch a high of 10,387 - up 271 points from the day's low.
The Sensex has now slipped back into red and exhibiting lacklustre movement around 10,276 - down 61 points.
Technology stocks have extended losses - Wipro has slumped nearly 8% to Rs 255, and TCS has plunged over 7% to Rs 509. Satyam has tumbled 6.6% to Rs 280, and Infosys has shed 5.3% at Rs 1,306.
Sterlite has dropped 6.8% to Rs 275. ACC and Reliance Infrastructure have slipped over 3.5% each to Rs 493 and Rs 515, respectively.
HDFC, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel and Reliance are down around 2.55 each at Rs 1,840, Rs 62, Rs 672 and Rs 1,404, respectively.
Ranbaxy has zoomed 7.8% to Rs 205, and ONGC has soard nearly 7% to Rs 759.

ITC has gained 3.3% at Rs 164. ICICI Bank, SBI and BHEL have rallied around 2.5% each to Rs 443, Rs 1,274 and Rs 1,374, respectively.
Maruti and Jaiprakash Associates are up over 1.5% each at Rs 612 and Rs 83, respectively.
The market breadth is positive - out of 2,458 stocks traded so far, 1,398 have advanced, 992 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
