Sensex down over 400pts; breadth extremely -ve

The Sensex has slipped deeper into red and is now down 420 points at 12,683.

ICICI Bank has slumped 8.5% to Rs 513. Jaiprakash Associates has tumbled 7.7% to Rs 112, and DLF has plunged 6.8% to Rs 345.

Tata Motors has dropped over 6% to Rs 350. Satyam, SBI, Reliance Infrastructure, Sterlite and Reliance Communications have shed 4% each at Rs 308, Rs 1,375, Rs 815, Rs 429 and Rs 334, respectively.

TCS and Larsen & Toubro have slipped 3.8% each to Rs 651 and Rs 2,375, respectively. HDFC Bank has declined 3.6% to Rs 1,201.

Bharti Airtel, HDFC and Tata Steel are down 3.3% each at Rs 750, Rs 2,020 and Rs 446, respectively.

Maruti, Infosys and Hindalco are down around 3% each at Rs 660, Rs 1,405 and Rs 96, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has advanced over 2% to Rs 258.

The market breadth is extremely negative - out of 2,296 stocks traded so far, 1,918 have declined, 334 have advanced and 44 are unchanged.
