The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 94 points at 10,321. Fresh buying in early trades saw the index spurt to a high of 10,408. However, the index could not hold gains for long as selling in frontline technology and select old economy stocks dragged the index in the negative zone.Unabated selling in the market saw the index drop below the physchological 10,000-mark to a low of 9973 - down 435 points from the day's high.The Sensex finally settled with a loss of 219 points at 10,007. In the process, the index has shed almost 8.5% (923 points) in the last five trading sessions.The BSE Auto and Metal indices dropped nearly 4% each to 4151 and 7423, respectively. The Teck index was down 3% at 2453.The market breadth was extremely negative - out of 2,449 stocks traded, 1,896 declined, 493 advanced and 60 were unchanged today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSSatyam and Wipro shed 5.5% each to Rs 657 and Rs 458, respectively. TCS has plunged 4.5% to Rs 1,758.ACC and Tata Motors dropped 4.5% each to Rs 780 and Rs 658, respectively.Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto and Maruti slipped nearly 4% each to Rs 459, Rs 2,391 and Rs 723, respectively.Reliance Communications and Hindalco were down over 3% each.Reliance Energy and HLL declined nearly 3% each to Rs 411 and Rs 224, respectively. BHEL and Gujarat Ambuja were down around 2.5% each at Rs 1,759 and Rs 99.55, respectively.Reliance, HDFC Bank and Cipla were down over 2% each at Rs 982, Rs 698 and Rs 212, respectively.ONGC moved up 2% at Rs 1,062. Ranbaxy is the only other gainer among the index stocks.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSReliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 295 crore followed by Satyam (Rs 146.20 crore), ACC (Rs 138 crore), TCS (Rs 135 crore) and Hindustan Zinc (Rs 91.25 crore).G V Films led the volume chart with trades of around 35 lakh shares followed by Reliance (30 lakh), SAIL (28 lakh), India Cements (26.85 lakh) and Aftek (26 lakh).
