INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS
Metal stocks were the biggest losers today, and there was not a single gainer among the Sensex stocks.
Hindalco crashed over 13% (Rs 32) to Rs 210. Tata Steel slumped 9% (Rs 58) to Rs 586.
Grasim shed 5.5% (Rs 125) to Rs 2,126. Gujarat Ambuja slipped 4.8% to Rs 101, and ACC dropped 4% to Rs 862.
Maruti tumbled 5.4% to Rs 883. Tata Motors declined 4.5% to Rs 919. Bajaj Auto was down almost 4% at Rs 3,039.
While ITC dropped nearly 5% to Rs 191, HLL slipped 3.5% to Rs 264.
Larsen & Toubro shed 4.5% to Rs 2,710. BHEL was down 3.4% at Rs 2,255.
Reliance plunged 4.3% to Rs 1,021. ONGC shed 3.5% to Rs 1,367.
SBI declined 3.6% to Rs 925. HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Dr.Reddy's were down around 3% each.
OTHER GAINERS & LOSERS
Metal stocks witnessed a free fall today. Sterlite Industries slumped 15% to Rs 514. Essar Steel (Rs 48.45), Hindustan Zinc (Rs 900), National Aluminium (Rs 286) and Sesa Goa (Rs 1,291) plunged over 10% each. Jindal Saw Pipes, Jindal Stainless, Jindal Steel, JSW Steel, SAIL and Welspun Gujarat were down 4-9% each.
SRF tumbled 13.5% to Rs 257. Gujarat Alkalies, J J Exporter, Dabur, VSNL, Chambal Fertilisers, Mukand, Lokesh Machines, IFCI, Apls Industries, Lanco Industries, Torrent Pharma and MRPL were the other significant losers.
Jindal Drilling zoomed over 12% to Rs 404, India Hume, Sundaram Clayton, Karur Vysya, Mahindra Gesco, Finolex Cables, SPL, Gujarat State Fertilisers, Kernex, Ansal Infrastructure, Adani Exports and Bombay Dyeing were the other major gainers today.
VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS
Reliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 385.07 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 277.26 crore), Reliance Petro (Rs 133 crore), ACC (Rs 115.45 crore) and Bombay Dyeing (Rs 113.37 crore).
Reliance Petro led the volume chart with trades of around 1.64 crore shares followed by IFCI (91.69 lakh), Reliance Natural Resources (91.43 lakh), Gujarat Ambuja (68.15 lakh) and Centurion Bank of Punjab (59.62 lakh).
