The Sensex opened on a bullish note at 7,836 - a gain of 20 points over its previous close of 7,816 - and zoomed to a new all-time high of 7,861 in early deals. The index, however, could not hold gains, and slipped into negative territory in late morning deals.The index was in the red for most part of the session today. After dipping to a low of 7,755 - a drop of 106 points from the intra-day high - the Sensex finally closed with a drop of 49 points (0.63%) at 7,767.While 22 index scrips declined, eight advanced today. Declining shares clocked a volume of 1.05 crore totalling Rs 601 crore, and advancing shares logged a turnover of Rs 179 crore.The broad market was evenly matched between advances and declines - out of 2,624 scrips traded, 1,310 advanced, 1,257 declined and 57 were unchanged today.The sectoral indices finished on a mixed note. The BSE Healthcare Index was up over 1% at 3,040. The BSE Metal, Auto, SmallCap and MidCap indices closed with marginal gains. The BSE Teck index declined 1.2% (24 points) to 1,977. The BSE Oil &Gas, PSU, Capital Goods and FMCG indices also declined.Wipro slipped 2.5% (Rs 18) to Rs 715. TCS dropped over 2% (Rs 29) to Rs 1,283. Infosys declined Rs 31 to Rs 2,259. ITC was down 1.8% (Rs 32) to Rs 1,693. Reliance was also down 1.8% (Rs 13) at Rs 704. SBI and HLL also declined.Hero Honda zoomed 7% (Rs 46) to Rs 692. Hindalco was up 2% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,402. Ranbaxy advanced over 3% (Rs 16) to Rs 536.ACC, Cipla, Gujarat Ambuja, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors also moved up today.IDFC, which was listed today, opened at Rs 49.90 - a gain of 47% over the IPO price of Rs 34 per share. After moving between a high of Rs 72 and low of Rs 50, the scrip finally closed at Rs 69.55 - a gain of 105%. The counter logged a huge volume of over 11.23 crore shares, and was the most active counter with a turnover of over Rs 750 crore.
