The Sensex opened 12 points higher over its last close at 6,726, but plunged deep into the red following relentless selling pressure in old and new economy stocks. After touching an early low of 6,657, the Sensex is now down 54 points at 6,660. The Nifty, too, has shed ground in the opening trades and has lost 18 points to 2,085.Reliance has dropped 1.12% (Rs 6) to Rs 550. While ITC has lost 1.43% (Rs 19) to Rs 1,276, HLL is marginally down at Rs 144.Infosys has commenced with a loss of 1.40% (Rs 31) at Rs 2,206. While Satyam has declined 1.79% (Rs 7) to Rs 404, Wipro is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 694.HPCL has shed 2.92% (Rs 10) to Rs 341, while ONGC is down a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 847.SBI has slipped a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 708. While HDFC Bank is down Rs 3 at Rs 584, ICICI Bank is down a rupee at Rs 380.Tisco is down 1.52% (Rs 6) at Rs 416. Reliance Energy, however, has added 2.44% (Rs 13) to Rs 565.While auto counters have slipped in early trades, pharma and cement majors are exhibiting mixed trend.
