The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 35 points at 14,218, and soon rallied to an intra-day high of 14,259. Profit-taking at higher levels saw the index slip to a low of 14,112 - down 147 points - in mid-noon trades. Steady buying, mainly in Infosys and ITC, saw the index then erase all its loss and rebound into positive zone. The Sensex finally settled with a marginal gain of 26 points at 14,209.The market breadth was marginally positive - out of 2,710 stocks traded, 1,371 advanced and 1,284 declined today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSMaruti, which dropped to an intra-day low of Rs 894, bounced sharply to end with a gain of 3% (Rs 28) at Rs 939.Infosys, BHEL and ITC surged over 2% each to Rs 2,254, Rs 2,320 and Rs 179, respectively.Tata Motors advanced 1.5% to Rs 964. Bajaj Auto, TCS, HLL and ACC were up around 1% each at Rs 2,761, Rs 1,312, Rs 224 and Rs 1,116, respectively.Satyam slipped over 3% to Rs 472. Ranbaxy dropped 2.5% to Rs 404.Reliance Energy shed 1.7% to Rs 506. Larsen & Toubro and Gujarat Ambuja were down over 1% each to Rs 1,551 and Rs 147, respectively.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSTech Mahindra topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 269.40 crore followed by Satyam (Rs 81.85 crore), Maruti (Rs 81.15 crore), IFCI (Rs 72.30 crore) and Reliance (Rs 70.65 crore).IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 2.92 crore shares followed by Harig Cranks (1.93 crore), Silverline (65 lakh), Reliance Natural Resources (64.65 lakh) and Nagarjuna Fertilisers (44.25 lakh).
