The Sensex opened marginally higher at 6,986. After initial dilly dallying, the index stumbled on selective selling pressure to touch an early low of 6,968 - down 116 points from the day's high.Though the market soon recovered from lower levels on selective gains, the index breached the 7,000 levels only in early noon trades. The market thereafter was on a complete bull run as major sectors, particularly heavyweights, banking, tech and other select old economy counters led the Sensex upsurge.After scaling to a new all-time intra-day high of 7,084 towards the fag-end, the Sensex finally ended at a new closing high of 7,076 - up 92 points. The Nifty, too, registered strong gains to end 26 points higher at 2,170.Reliance Industries mopped up significant gains and soared 2.46% (Rs 15) to Rs 646.ONGC shot up 2.50% (Rs 23) to Rs 945. While HLL rose 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 153, ITC was up a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 1,546. Reliance Energy, which rallied sharply yesterday, ended weak today at Rs 655 - down Rs 3.SBI added 1.36% (Rs 9) to Rs 665. While ICICI Bank jumped 3.30% (Rs 13) to Rs 418, HDFC Bank closed with steady gains at Rs 600.Infosys bounced from its lows in the afternoon trades and ended up a per cent (Rs 16) at Rs 2,392. TCS and Satyam, too, were up a per cent each at Rs 1,304 (up Rs 7) and Rs 507 (up Rs 4), respectively. Wipro ended marginally higher at Rs 757.Cipla flared up 7% (Rs 20) to Rs 305, while Ranbaxy clocked a per cent gain (Rs 11) to Rs 1,082.Gujarat Ambuja soared 6% (Rs 4) to Rs 63, while Grasim gained 1.12% (Rs 12) to Rs 1,100. ACC, however, slipped a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 378.Maruti gained 2.58% (Rs 11) to Rs 454, and Tata Motors was up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 418.Tata Power advanced 2.33% (Rs 9) to Rs 375, while Tisco moved up 2.54% (Rs 9) to Rs 357. HDFC, however, lost a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 843.
