The Sensex opened a tad higher at 13,886 - up seven points - but slipped soon due to weakness in technology stocks at the opening bell. Fresh buying in cement and metal stocks saw the index rebound into positive zone and touch a high of 13,956.Selling re-emerged in mid-noon trades, and the index slipped to a low of 13,741 - down 215 points from the day's high. The Sensex finally ended close to the day's low at 13,765 - down 114 points.The BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices declined over 1% each to 5780 and 6939, respectively.The IT index dropped 1.6% to 4933. The Auto, Bankex, Healthcare and Oil & Gas indices were down 1% each at 4980, 6753, 3697 and 7249, respectively. The market breadth was fairly negative - out of 2,634 stocks traded, 1,683 declined, 880 advanced and 71 were unchanged today.LOSING SHEEN....SBI and Hero Honda tumbled over 3% each to Rs 1,082 and Rs 682, respectively. Dr.Reddy's dropped 2.4% to Rs 687.Reliance Energy slipped 2% to Rs 503. Infosys and Wipro declined 1.8% each to Rs 2,002 and Rs 545, respectively.Bharti Airtel declined 1.5% to Rs 810. Cipla, HDFC and Bajaj Auto were down 1.3% each at Rs 212, Rs 1,607 and Rs 2,534, respectively.HDFC Bank, BHEL, Reliance Communications, Satyam and Bharti Airtel were the other prominent losers today.ACC surged nearly 3% to Rs 887 on reports that Holcim bought 60 lakh shares (3.5% equity of the company) at around Rs 900 per share.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSICRA topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 260.70 crore followed by Indiabulls (Rs 229.60 crore), Tech Mahindra (Rs 166.40 crore), Advanta (Rs 137.70 crore) and Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs 134.50 crore).IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 2.32 crore shares followed by Tata Teleservices (72.15 lakh), Nagarjuna Fertilisers (65.70 lakh), Reliance Natural (65 lakh) and Dish TV (50.30 lakh).
