Sensex ends up 121pts

The Sensex has finally ended (provisional) at 16,862 - up 121 points. The Nifty ended (provisional) up 36 points at 5,011.

The markets are exhibiting firm movement. The Sensex has gained 191 points to 16,932. The NSE Nifty is now at 5,029, up 53 points.

All the BSE sectoral indices are in the green. FMCG, Auto and IT indices have gained 1.5% each.

HDFC has rallied over 5% to Rs 2,663. TCS, Tata Motors and ITC have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 600, Rs 614 and Rs 233, respectively.

Wipro, Infosys and Maruti Suzuki have added 1.5% each to Rs 577, Rs 2,399 and Rs 1,663, respectively.

Hero Honda, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hindustan Unilever have  gained over 1% each to Rs 1,700, Rs 895 and Rs 264, respectively.

Bharti Airtel has declined over 3% to Rs 428. Jaiprakash Associates has shed 2.5% to Rs 251.

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,826 stocks, 1,653 have advanced, while 1,082 have declined.
