Taking cues from strong global markets, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 85 points at 14,088 - up 85 points - and then did not bother to look back.Unabated buying in capital goods, metal and select financial stocks saw the index advance to higher levels as the day progressed. The index touched a high of 14,219. The Sensex finally ended with a smart gain of 201 points at 14,204.The BSE Metal index surged nearly 3% to 10,568. The IT and Oil & Gas indices moved up 1.3% each to 5034 and 7493, respectively.The market breadth was fairly positive - out of 2,560 stocks traded, 1,691 advanced, 783 declined and 86 were unchanged today.RISING STARSHDFC zoomed 4.5% to Rs 1,829. ACC surged 3.7% to Rs 828.Tata Steel and BHEL rallied around 3% each to Rs 614 and Rs 1,349, respectively.Larsen & Toubro, ONGC, Grasim and Bharti Airtel moved up around 2.7% each to Rs 1,923, Rs 885, Rs 2,425 and Rs 818, respectively.Hindalco gained 2.3% at Rs 164. Dr.Reddy's, SBI and Infosys advanced around 2% each to Rs 640, Rs 1,314 and Rs 2,020, respectively.Gujarat Ambuja and Ranbaxy added 1.7% each to Rs 111 and Rs 370, respectively.HDFC Bank, Reliance, Reliance Energy, Reliance Communications, Maruti and Satyam were the other major gainers.Hero Honda slipped 1.7% to Rs 684. MOST ACTIVE COUNTERSTime Technoplast topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 248 crore followed by ICRA (Rs 186.25 crore), Unitech (Rs 138.65 crore), MIC Electronics (137.40 crore) and Nitin Fire (100.20 crore).G V Films led the volume chart with trades of around 70.85 lakh shares followed by IFCI (63 lakh), Reliance Natural (60.60 lakh), Time Technoplast (51 lakh) and MIC Electronics (38.15 lakh).
