The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 30 points at 14,459. The index touched a high of 14,484, but soon slipped into negative zone on account of profit-taking at higher levels. The index dropped to a low of 14,348 - down 136 points from the day's high.The index, thereafter, exhibited lacklustre movement for most part of the trading day. Agressive buying, mainly in Reliance Communications and HDFC towards the end of the day, saw the Sensex finally finish with a gain of 35 points at 14,454.The Nifty hit a new all-time intra-day high of 4282, and ended at a new record level of 4278 - up 17 points.The market breadth was negative - out of 2,651 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,444 declined, 1,116 advanced and 91 were unchanged today.GAINERS & LOSERSHDFC zoomed 4.5% to Rs 1,794. Reliance Communications soared 3.4% to Rs 523.ACC surged over 2% to Rs 891, and BHEL gained 1.5% at Rs 2,676.HDFC Bank, Maruti and Bharti Airtel advanced over 1% each to Rs 1,117, Rs 830 and Rs 859, respectively.Bajaj Auto and Gujarat Ambuja shed 2.3% each to Rs 2,195 and Rs 116, respectively. SBI slipped 1.6% to Rs 1,325.ICICI Bank, NTPC and Hindalco were down around 1% each at Rs 929, Rs 155 and Rs 146, respectively.MOST ACTIVE COUNTERSReliance Capital topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 447 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 192 crore), Reliance Communications (Rs 166.70 crore), United Spirits (Rs 144 crore) and Bajaj Auto (Rs 94.20 crore).Reliance Natural led the volume chart with trades of around 2.60 crore shares followed by Tata Teleservices (1.05 crore), Zee News (55.33 lakh), Gujarat NRE (52.40 lakh) and Nagarjuna Fertilisers (49.60 lakh).
