The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 138 points at 8,889 a day after Mumbai suffered its worst-ever terror attack. But, the index soon bounced back into green snubbing the prevailing gloomy situation in the city.
The index, thereafter, exhibited range-bound movement for most part of the trading day. Some short covering in late noon deals, owing to the derivatives expiry, saw the index spurt to a high of 9,158 - up 269 points from the day's low.
The Sensex, however, pared gains towards the close and finally ended with a marginal gain of 71 points at 9,098, even as the security personnel continued to combat the terrorists in the southern Mumbai.
