Following yesterday's 240pt fall, and coupled with overnight weakness in the US markets, the Sensex opened marginally lower (22 points) at 12,862. However, a recovery in other Asian markets this morning saw the index rebound into positive zone in morning deals.A fresh round of selling in banking stocks saw the index slip to a low of 12,833. The index, thereafter, exhibited lacklustre movement for the major part of the trading session owing to shifting of positions in the derivaives segment even as other Asain markets staged a smart rally.Some short-covering towards the end saw the index rally to a high of 13,004 - up 174 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 95 points at 12,980 - reversing the 3-day downtrend after the index lost 424 points.The BSE FMCG index gained 2% at 1712, and the IT index added nearly 1% to 4875.The market breadth was positive - out of 2,581 stocks traded, 1,584 advanced, 927 declined and 70 were unchanged.MOVERS & SHAKERSTCS zoomed nearly 4% to Rs 1,247. Hero Honda and HLL soared around 3.5% each to Rs 680 and Rs 205, respectively.Larsen & Toubro surged over 3% to Rs 1,616. ITC, Gujarat Ambuja and Ranbaxy rallied over 2% each to Rs 147, Rs 105 and Rs 345, respectively.Dr.Reddy's, Maruti and NTPC advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 705, Rs 811 and Rs 145, respectively. Wipro, Satyam, SBI and Reliance Energy added 1.3% each to Rs 566, Rs 462, Rs 986 and Rs 488, respectively.HDFC Bank dropped 2.3% to Rs 933. Bajaj Auto slipped 1.7% to Rs 2,421, and Hindalco declined 1.4% to Rs 128.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSIndiabulls Real Estate topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 209.43 crore followed by Infosys (Rs 128.12 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 126.52 crore), Reliance (Rs 114.18 crore) and Tata Motors (Rs 63.92 crore).IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 1.81 crore shares followed by Indiabulls Real Estate (67.33 lakh), Idea Cellular (66.46 lakh), Shiva Cement (39.61 lakh) and Sakthi Sugar (34.40 lakh).
