Sensex ends up eight points

The Sensex has ended (provisional) at 16,980 - up eight points.

The Nifty ended at 5,084 - up four points.

Markets have recovered from the lows of the day.

The Sensex after touching a high of 17,098, slipped into red on a bout of profit taking by investors. It touched a low of 16,936 - down 162 points from the day's high.

The Sensex is now at 17,017 - up 46 points.

The Nifty is up 13 points at 5,093.

DLF has gained 4% at Rs 317. Hero Honda  and Bharti Airtel have added 2.3% each to Rs 1,839 and Rs 300.

Jaiprakash Associates and Reliance Communications have advanced 1% each.

On the other hand, Tata Motors continue to trade weak. The stock is now down 1.6% at Rs 798. BHEL and Wipro are also in red - down about 1% each.

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,900 stocks traded, 1,716 have advanced while 1,082 have declined.
