The Sensex opened at 16,655 and then zoomed to a high of 16,928,up 273 points from the day's low owing to positive cues from the global markets all over. The index is now at 16,997, up 257 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,019, up 77 points.
Tata Motors, Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite Industries have advanced over 3% each to Rs 651, Rs 221 and Rs 855, respectively.
ICICI Bank, DLF, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro and Hindalco have added 2-3% each.
There are no losers on the Sensex so far.
