Sensex firm; SBI surges 4%

The Sensex after the initial uncertanity has firmed up and is now up 160  points at 8,907. Earlier in the day, the index opened 32 points higher at 8,779, and had touched a low of 8,727.

BHEL and SBI have surged nearly 4.5% each to Rs 1,326 and Rs 1,144, respectively.

Tata Motors has rallied 3.8% to Rs 138. DLF, ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have gained around 3.5% each at Rs 199, Rs 347 and Rs 65, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has  moved up nearly 3% to Rs 710. HDFC and Tata Power have advanced around 2.5% each to Rs 1,448 and Rs 663, respectively.

Tata Steel, ITC, Reliance Infrastructure and TCS are up around 2% each.

Hindalco has shed 2.5% at Rs 50. Maruti has slipped 1.6% to Rs 477.
