The market has registered strong gains owing to fresh buying in heavyweights, banking and other select old economy counters. The Sensex, as a result, has advanced 41 points to 6,575. The Nifty, too, has edged higher by 12 points to 2,055.Reliance has moved up 1.28% (Rs 7) to Rs 541. ITC has scaled up 1.85% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,288. HLL is up 1.40% (Rs 2) at Rs 144.SBI has jumped 2% (Rs 13) to Rs 674. HDFC Bank is up a rupee at Rs 561, while ICICI Bank is marginally down a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 373.Infosys at Rs 2,148 (up Rs 5), Wipro at Rs 683 (up Rs 4) and Satyam at Rs 403 (up Rs 3) are trading with steady gains, after early weakness.L&T has advanced 3.28% (Rs 33) to Rs 1,053. While Reliance Energy has logged 1.34% gains (Rs 7) to Rs 555, Tisco is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 412.Bajaj has added 1.20% (Rs 12) to Rs 1,040. While Tata Motors has moved up 1.29% (Rs 6) to Rs 483, Maruti has gained 1.19% (Rs 6) to Rs 471. Hero Honda (down Rs 2 to Rs 540), however, is trading with marginal losses.
