The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 44 points at 12,742, which also turned out to be the low for the day. Buying in Reliance in noon deals, aided by fresh buying in Grasim and Bharti, saw the index zoom to a high of 12,921 - an intra-day gain of 223 points. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 208 points at 12,907.All the sectoral indices closed at higher levels today. The BSE Oil & Gas Index advanced 2.9% (169 points) to 5981. The BSE Teck Index gained 1.9% (61 points) to 3287. The BSE PSU Index was up 1.8% (104 points) to 5954.The broad market mood, however, was subdued - out of 2,585 scrips traded, 1,308 advanced, 1,195 declined and 82 were unchanged today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSBharti, which reported a 79% rise in Q2 net at Rs 934cr, zoomed 4.6% (Rs 23) to Rs 527. Reliance Communications gained 4.5% (Rs 17) to Rs 385.Reliance zoomed to a high of 1,227, and finally closed with a solid gain of over 4% (Rs 48) at Rs 1,223. SBI moved up 2.6% (Rs 27) to Rs 1,093. Infosys gained over 1% (Rs 25) to Rs 2,097.Grasim moved up 3% (Rs 77) to Rs 2,711. Reliance Energy added over 3% (Rs 15) to Rs 481. Dr. Reddy's gained over 2% to Rs 730. Tata Motors, Maruti, ITC, Wipro and Satyam also finished with gains today.FIRST DAY ACTIONDevelopment Credit Bank was listed at Rs 35.35 as against the IPO price of Rs 26. The scrip zoomed to a high of Rs 49 before finally closing with a gain of 81% (Rs 21) at Rs 47.Global Vectra was listed at Rs 175, hit a high of Rs 195 and finally closed at Rs 187.VOLUME & VALUE TOPPERSTech Mahindra was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 298 crore followed by DCB (Rs 260 crore), Reliance (Rs 210 crore) and Hindustan Zinc (Rs 134 crore).DCB topped the volume charts with trades of over 5.76 crore shares followed by IFCI (79 lakh), Silverline (54 lakh) and Morepen (45 lakh).
