The markets finally broke into the green after hovering around the previous day's close of 18,226. However, the index quickly lost steam to slip into the red once again.The Sensex is flat at 18,225 and the Nifty is stable around 5,477.The smallcap index (up 0.5%) and the midcap index (up 0.6%) has extended gains and continues to outperform the benchmark index which is down 0.02%.
In the midcap space,193 scrips have advanced while 75 have declined.The movers here are MVL gaining 5.5% followed by IL&FS Transportation and Eicher Motors adding 4.5% each.In the smallcap space 339 scrips have advanced as compared to 180 declines.Sundaram Clayton up 16% is the top gainer followed by ASSAMCO adding 14% and GSS America gaining 11%.
Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, Metal index up 1% continues to shine closely followed by PSU and Oil & Gas. Bankex, Power, FMCG slips into the negative to join Teck and IT at the bottom.In the PSU space, the movers are BPCL and ONGC up 3.5% each, HPCL and Gail India adding narly 3% each.
The gainers in the Sensex-30 stocks are ONGC (Rs 1327) up nearly 4%, Tata Steel (Rs 514) gaining 2.5%, Sterlite (Rs 154) adding1.6% and Reliance Communications (Rs 162) up 1%.
The losers list on the Sensex is lead by Tata Power (Rs 1244) and Infosys (Rs 2711)down nearly 2% followed by TCS (Rs 864) and Cipla (Rs 304) shedding 1% each.
The market breadth is positive.1584 stocks have advanced while 1099 have declined.
