Sensex hovers around day's high

After touching a high of 18,797, the Sensex continues to trade around the same levels. The Nifty is at 5,638 adding 31 points. In the broader markets, the midcap index has moved higher at 1% and the smallcap index too has inched ahead at 0.9% as compared to the benchmark index at  0.6%.

In the midcap space, 240 scrips have advanced while 32 scrips have declined. The movers here are BASF India up 10%, Britannia adding 8.5%, Sigrun Holdings and Infotech gaining 6% each.

In the smallcaps, 413 scrips have moved up and 96 scrips are down. The gainers in this space are Heritage Foods and Delta Corp up 10% each,  Vindhya Telelinks,Shasun Chemicals and Karuturi Global Services adding 9% each.

All the sectoral indices on the BSE are in the green. Bankex and Realty up 1% each leads followed by Consumer Durables, Auto and PSU.IT which started in the red has moved into the positive. However, Metal has slipped and is at the bottom of the chart at 0.03%.The gainers in the banking space are Canara Bank and Bank of India up 2.5%,HDFC Bank adding 2% and Federal Bank and Union Bank up 1.6% each.

Gujarat Pipavav Port has debuted at a 22% premium at Rs 56.10 against its issue price of Rs 46 a share on the NSE, with 13.48 million shares having already changed hands on the counter.

Apart form the banking scrips, the gainers on the Sensex are DLF up narly 2%, Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra and Hero Honda gaining 1% ecah.Tata Motors, BHEL, L&T and Reliance Infrastructure follows.

Sterlite down 2%, Cipla,ACC and Wipro shedding nearly 1%, Hindalco, Reliance Communications, TCS  losing between 0.3%-0.6% are the losers on the Sensex.

Market breadth is very positive. Of the total 2607 share straded on the BSE, 1761 have advanced while 762 have declined.
