The Sensex is now down 62 points at 8,752. The index had opened nearly flat at 8,804 - down 10 points, thereafter, moved up to a high of 8,859, before slipping into red to a low of 8,719.
Mahindra & Mahindra has slumped 6.8% to Rs 268, and Jaiprakash Associates has plunged 6.3% to Rs 62.
Tata Power has shed 3.3% at Rs 691. Wipro and NTPC have dropped 2.5% each to Rs 212 and Rs 175, respectively.
Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever and Larsen & Toubro have slipped 2.3% each to Rs 175, Rs 248 and Rs 649, respectively.
BHEL and Sterlite have declined 2.2% each to Rs 1,337 and Rs 238, respectively.
Infosys, Sun Pharma and Hindalco are down 2% each at Rs 1,204, Rs 1,080 and Rs 43, respectively.

Tata Motors has gained 2.8% at Rs 136. Reliance Infrastructure has moved up 2% to Rs 498.
Reliance has gained 1.8% at Rs 1,153, and HDFC is up over 1% at Rs 1,416.
The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,158 stocks traded so far, 1,321 have declined, 731 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
